A little library, growing larger every year, is an honourable part of a man’s history. It is a man’s duty to have Books. The mission of G.S.S. Library is to support the intellectual pursuits of the college community by providing a gateway to the wealth of information. There are two separate spacious, automated libraries – one specifically catering to the Post-graduate students and other for the Under Graduates.

GSS Library details
The Library’s primary mission is to serve the academic community with high-quality resources, services and act as a gateway to information to meet the needs of the institution’s diverse instructional, research and out reach programmes.
The library is specifically established by the management of the college to serve as the preeminent repository of information for the students and Faculty.
There are two Libraries in the campus .The UG Library is equipped with 7128 books ,16 journals,16 magazines and PG library is flourished with 3810 books,4 journals,10 magazines .
The college Library provides a resource sharing facility through DELNET to its users, it holds Institutional membership with British Council, American Library, Anna University Library, MALA(Madras Library Association) etc.,
For stimulating the reading habit among the students the Library Department is organizing library festival “LIBFEST” year after year, wherein various competitions are conducted for the students and prizes are distributed to the winners.
The college provides Free Net Access to all the Staff & Students. This is mainly to enable the students to get maximum exposure to the web world, e-journals and update their knowledge in all the subjects
Book Bank
A Book Bank has been created in the college,primarily to lend and circulate the prescribed text book and other reference books among the needy and deserving students.The GSS Book Bank has more than 700 books in the book bank section.Students of G.S.S are contributing their old test books as well as new books on the important occasions like their birthdays.
Automation
Both of our college libraries are fully automated with following features
- The routines of the library are automated with AUTOLIB SOFTWARE for quick retrieval of books and periodicals. Our libraries are computerized with AUTOLIB SOFTWARE for circulation, easy search & retrieval of books.
- AUTOLIB software is used for various Library Operations like Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, and Reservation of Books.
- It is used for Issue, Return, Renewal and Reservation of books.
- It is very useful for generating various reports periodically, Like
1. No. of Faculties using the Library
2. No. of Students using the Library
3. No. of books issued during the particular period
4. Day wise usage report for onward submission to College Authorities
5. Total Number of books & Periodicals available
6. Generation of subject wise, author wise list of books.
7. New Arrivals
Card System
Books will be issued against student’s card only; one cannot borrow books by using another one’s card. Books can be borrowed for a period of 14 days. This period can be extended for a period of another 14 days provided based on demand. Books borrowed are the responsibility of the student, if lost or found in torn condition the student is required to replace the books or pay 3 times the cost of the book, to ensure proper maintenance of books. If Library card is lost by students they can get a duplicate card by paying Rs. 50/- per card at the college office against receipt. Students can reserve for a book if the books is not available on the shelf by entering details of the book in the “Book Reservation Register”. The book will be issued to them once the book is returned by another the student. Please note that one has to collect the reserved books within 2 days failing which it will be given to next person in order reserving the same book.
The college library facilitates the students by providing them with books during the end semester examinations by the student paying the cost of the book and library card, which will be refunded on return of the books; This helps the needy students to use the Text books at free of cost during the examination time apart from Book Bank facility available.
