ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department of economics aspires to uphold high standards of academic performance and deliver the program of study that supports learning and independent thinking among the students. Learning economics helps to understand human behaviour and to make better choices in times of scarcity leading to better economic well-being. Economics provides a methodology for understanding complex economic issues and a systematic framework for analysing those issues. The undergraduate courses offered in economics covers a wide spectrum of these economic issues from Business economics, Managerial Economics, international trade and rural economics. The students are trained to prepare to become well equipped economists and planners who can tackle new emerging imperatives in Economics and developing quantitative and analytical skills.

The innovative practices of the department are:

  1. The Department collaborates with Scientific Research Association for Economics and Finance, Chennai to conduct Know Your Economy Test (Awareness kindling test) annually.
  2. The Department organizes an intra collegiate event to enable the students to exhibit the hidden talents in co-curricular activities.
