ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The B.Com. Graduates can pursue Post Graduate Studies like M.Com. MBA, MCA, ICWA, ISCI, CMA, CS, etc. After their Post-Graduation, they may do M.Phil. or Ph.D. and take teaching as their career in higher education institutions like Degree colleges and Universities. Other Career Options: Chartered Accountancy, Banking Services, Insurance Sectors, Marketing, Company Secretaryship, Stock Exchange Services, Tax Consultancy, Management & Planning, Entrepreneurship, Law etc. They also eligible to study Certificate Courses of any discipline. They may appear for any competitive exams conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), TamilNadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), Indian Railway Board, etc,.for entering into the government services.
OBJECTIVES
- To inculcate the students to have adequate knowledge of adapting to the changes in the flexible business world.
- To enable the students to obtain a good understanding of how the financial aspects of a business need to be managed.
- To enhance the students to gain an in-depth knowledge on core subjects like accounting, law, statistics, & finance.

The increasing influence of globalization, liberalization and privatization has been immensely influencing the commerce education of India and our college as well. The desired outcome of commerce education of our college is multidimensional. The students demonstrate reasonable knowledge and understanding of elements of accounting, finance, taxation, costing, Indian financial system and financial markets, business law, information technology, business mathematics and statistics, economics, auditing, business communications and marketing. It equips our students with required knowledge, skills and attitudes for the handling of trade, commerce and industry.
The Commerce graduates should be able to:
- Accounting knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, Social science, accounting fundamentals, and computer specialization to the solution of complex accounting & management problems.
- Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse socio – economic problems to arrive at substantiated conclusions using first principles of statistics, natural and social sciences.
- Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for economic problems and design software, processes to meet the specifications with consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research – based knowledge including design of tools, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
- Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern statistical tools & software.
- The accountant and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional accounting practice.
- Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional accounting solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of and need for sustainable development.
- Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the accounting practices.
- Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
- Communications: Communicate effectively with the accounting professional & IT community and with society at large. Be able to comprehend and write effective reports documentation. Make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
- Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of management & software engineering principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team. Manage project in multidisciplinary environments.
- Life – long learning: Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life – long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

A Intra collegiate Fiesta ELYSIAN 2020 was inaugurated by Ms. Karthik Ragavendar, FCA, CS, Qualified Chartered Accountant, Qualified Company secretary, Chair Sugadharam, Co-Chair Rural Initiatives, in association CII Young Indians on the Topic “Corporate Social Responsibility” on 02/11/2020 from 2.00 pm onwards. He clearly explained the Principles of CSR and ways of spending the money on welfare activities. He illustrated with practical examples of Companies involved in CSR activities.

PTA Meet started with a welcome address. Brief about IQAC, Role of Students and Responsibility of parents were discussed. Parent teacher Interaction on subject discussion discipline, attendance, online classes and importance of attending events and activities was emphasized.
Parent’s queries on following aspects were posed.
- Student performance
- Governments and festival holidays are requested by parents.
- Whatsapp to parents of absentees, Leave information, class timing, syllabus, subjects.
- Parents need their wards to have more assignments and test.
